Since its inception, the Centre is engaged with organising several events including meeting with Stakeholders, Consultative Meet, Capacity Building Workshop cum Training, and Awareness Campaigning. Following are the chronological order of events organised by the Centre.

  • Centre has organized the e-Symposium on tourism titled “Emergent North-East India: Strategic and Developmental Imperatives in Tourism” on 20th June 2020. The e-Symposium was inaugurated by Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Culture &Tourism, Govt. of India. The inaugural session was attended by Shri. Shishir Bajoria, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, Shri Manoj Mishra, Managing Director, Zenith Holidays, Shri Devesh Deval, IAS, Commissioner cum Secretary, Tourism Department, Govt. of Manipur, Shri K. Jaya Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Department, Govt. of Sikkim, and Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong. The inaugural session was followed by technical session. Shri Shri Jishnu Debbarma, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, delivered the valedictory address. Key note speakers of the technical session were Mr. Duyu Tamo, Mr. Kulendra Daulagapu, Ms. Nino Zhasa, Mr. Ajit Kumar Paul, Mr. Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, Mr. Shyamkanu Mahanta, Dr. Vijay Kumar D. Shri Atul Kulkarni moderated the session. The technical session was also attended by Prof Keya Sengupta, Coordinator, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis and Dr. Natalie West Kharkongor, Associate Professor & Sectoral Coordinator, Tourism.
  • The Centre has organised the inaugural session of e-Symposium series titled ‘Emergent North-East India: Strategic and Developmental Imperatives’ followed by a technical session on 05/06/2020.The e-Symposium series was inaugurated by Dr Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister (Independent Charge), Ministry of DoNER. The inaugural session was attended by Shri. Shishir Bajoria, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, Shri. K Moses Chalai, IAS Secretary, North Eastern Council, Shillong, Dr. Inder Jit Singh, IAS Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, Shri. Atul Kulkarni, Member, Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong, Prof. Keya Sengupta, Centre Coordinator, Dr APJ Centre for Policy Research and Analysis. The inaugural session was followed by technical session. Eminent academicians and professional such as Prof Saibal Kar, Professor of Economics, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata, Prof D.Rajasekhar, HAG Professor and Head, Centre for Decentralisation and Development, Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore Prof Madhurjya Prasad Bezbaruah, Professor, Department of Economics Gauhati University, Guwahati, Mr. Amit Raje, Ex-Managing Director in Goldman Sach’s Principal Investment Area delivered lecture on technical session. Prof. Keya Sengupta, Centre Coordinator, Dr APJ Centre for Policy Research and Analysis moderated the session.
  • The Centre Coordinator attended a Consultative Meet on Tourism organised by North Eastern Council on 13th February 2020 at NEC Conference hall.
  • The Second Governing Body meeting of the Centre was organised on 17th December 2019 at Indian Institute of Management Shillong. The meeting was Chaired by Secretary, North Eastern Council, Shillong and attended by Director, Indian Institute of Management, Shillong and Centre Coordinator, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis. Honourable Member, North Eastern Council, Shillong, Planning Adviser, North Eastern Council, Shillong and Adviser (Irrigation and Water Management), North Eastern Council, Shillong attended the meeting as a special invitee.
  • The Centre organised the first Governing Body meeting at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong on 22nd August 2019. The meeting was Chaired by Secretary, North Eastern Council, Shillong and attended by Additional Secretary, Ministry of DONER, New Delhi, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Shillong and Centre Coordinator, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis.
  • Officials of the Centre presented the first round of policy analysis on Handicraft, Handloom and Tourism at Conference Hall, North Eastern Council, Shillong on 28th February 2019.
  • Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research & Analysis organised a lecture on Tourism Policy and Economic Development by U.S. Speaker Ms Kathleen Pessolano followed by an interactive discussion at IIM Shillong on 24th September 2018. Kathleen Pessolano is Destinations Program Director of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, the world's leading standard-setting body for tourism sustainability. She conducts stakeholder-driven destination assessments worldwide, applying the GSTC Criteria for Destinations, and recommending policies and practices for destinations to achieve greater economic benefits from tourism while minimising negative impacts on natural and cultural resources. The lecture was attended by the Tourism Entrepreneurs of Meghalaya and officials of NEC, Shillong.
  • The Centre organised the first meeting to prepare the road map of the Centre with the different stakeholders including North Eastern Council, Shillong and Nodal officers from eight states of North East on 27th July 2018 at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.
  • The initial meeting was held on 28th May 2016 between Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, New Delhi, North Eastern Council, Shillong and Indian Institute of Management, Shillong and decision were taken to set up the Centre at Indian Institute of Management Shillong. Accordingly, an MoU singed among them on 15th October 2016.
