International partnerships between B-Schools, Universities and other like-minded institutions are valuable to all, from the faculty and students to the world as a whole. At a time in which forming such associations has perhaps never been simpler, it has also never been more necessary. The rate of internationalization is fast progressing, with unconstrained communication channels and affordable travel. Institutions across the world are already in quest of making the most of the possibilities that collaborative efforts in the field of management education presents by forming global partnerships and fostering relationships with other institutions.
The number of students choosing to pursue short term international studies is constantly increasing and, for this reason, it is only rational that institutions would want to ensure they embrace a global culture to continue attracting applicants.
International institutional partnerships helps student recruitment in two main ways, wherein primarily, for domestic students, it offers the opportunity to travel internationally via programs which may have been set up – and vice-versa for students at partnered institutions. It also enables institutions to better understand the culture of other nations, thereby facilitating their marketing success there.
In addition, the main reason for pursuing higher education is the preparation it affords for life in the working world. Living in a globalized society, international collaboration programs help by providing students with the ability to study, work and travel in an international capacity
With the aim to foster such meaningful collaborations, IIM Shillong in the recent years has directed itself towards providing an enabling environment to its participants through constant engaging with institutions across the world. The success story lies in its partnership with institutions such as the Nanyang Business School (NTU), Singapore, IESEG School of Management, Lille Catholic University, France, and the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, China. Besides the above collaborations, the participants of the Post Graduate Program for Executives - Managing Business in India and China are engaged in knowledge building and upgradation through reputed institutions such as the Ocean University of China and the School of Management at Fudan University.
The courses on offer, and the attractive pricing coupled with IIM Shillong’s partial funding support of the study abroad programs has been well received by the participants over the years, and has helped the students in national and international level placements in reputed companies.
A significant aspect of international collaboration of IIM Shillong has also been training students of other countries as corporate leaders. With this aim in view we have trained a group of students from Myanmar of Mandalay University. We are also in the process of signing an MoU with Myanmar and some other countries of South East Asia for student-instructor arranged intercultural immersion experience featuring core management learning and collaborative research.
