The IIM Shillong family is proud and excited to welcome its first batch of participants for the Doctoral Programme for Working Professionals. Director, Prof. D. P. Goyal, Dean Academics, Prof. Keya Sengupta, Chair Doctoral Programme, Prof. Mousumi Bhattacharya and the faculty members were present at the inauguration ceremony held on 21.11.2019 to administer the pledge and formally make the participants a part of the #IIMShillong community.
The unique programme has been designed keeping in mind the needs of the professionals wishing to enter the field of research, and the benefits that the field can derive from their extensive work experiences.
MDP on “General Management” was organized by IIM Shillong for Officers of Reserve Bank of India from 18th-20th November, 2019 in the Campus. Altogether 20 participants from across the country attended the training program.
The program is coordinated by Program Director, Prof.Neelam Rani (Area Chair –Finance ,IIM Shillong )
The 3 days training program was facilitated by faculty from IIM Shillong .
An MDP on “Academic Leadership” under TEQIP III sponsored by Assam Science and Technology University, was organized by IIM Shillong from 22nd-24th October, 2019 in NEDFi Convention Center, Guwahati.
The program is inaugurated in the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr Dhiraj Bora -Chairman and Director of Higher Education, Govt of Assam, Mr Mukul Chandra Bora from SPIU, Prof Baruwa -Academic Consultant ASTU, dignitaries from ASTU and faculty from IIM Shillong.
The program is coordinated by Program Director(s) Prof.Nalini Prava Tripathy – Dean Research, New Initiatives and External Affairs and Prof Harsh Vardhan Samalia (Chair MDP ).The 3 day training program is facilitated by Faculty from IIM Shillong .
Altogether 33 faculty attended the training program from various Institutes and affiliations like Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology Guwahati, Golaghat Engineering College , GIMT Tezpur, Assam Engineering College and Assam Science and Technology University.
MDP on “General Management with emphasis on Leadership Competencies” was organized by IIM Shillong for Senior Executives of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd from 14th-19th October, 2019 in the Campus. Altogether 26 participants attended the training program.
The program is coordinated by Program Director(s) Prof. Keya Sengupta- Dean Academics and Prof Harsh Vardhan Samalia .
The 6 days training program was facilitated by faculty from IIM Shillong .
To commemorate the legacy of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, as well as World Student’s day which scripts a beautiful gossamer of relationship between the missile man of India and IIM Shillong, the Institute hosted the 4th Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam lecture series delivered by Padma Bhushan Dr K. Radhakrishnan former Chairman of ISRO as the Chief Guest; and Dr.PLN Raju, Director, NESAC; Shri D. Prakash, IG, CRPF and Ms. Patricia Mukhim, Editor, The Shillong Times as honorable guests.
The event kickstarted with an inaugural address by Prof. Keya Sengupta, Dean (Academics) at IIM Shillong followed by an introduction of the keynote speaker by Prof. Sanjoy Mukherjee. Later, the honorable Chief Guest, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan took the stage and commenced his lecture on “India and the New Space Age”. Dr. Radhakrishnan started by reminiscing about his own tryst with Dr. Kalam and talked about how Dr. Kalam motivated everyone to work towards perfection and achieve more than they could envisage. Moving ahead, he talked extensively about the management principles applied in ISRO, and how ISRO, despite being faced with a galore of problems continues to excel because of its state-of-the-art management principles and backed his talk with management lessons incorporated, ranging from operationalization of Aryabhatta, India’s first satellite to Chandrayaan-2, while also taking up prospects of Gaganyaan mission. Later, he took part in a constructive discussion with the participants and answered their questions from areas related to space laws and regulations and new ventures in the area.
Dr. Radhakrishnan’s speech was followed by the release of the first official newsletter of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Center for Policy Research and Analysis at IIM Shillong. Formed as part of a tripartite agreement between Ministry of DoNER, North Eastern Council and IIM Shillong, the center works towards formulating policies for the north eastern states of India in handloom, handicraft, horticulture, tourism, logistics and BPO sectors.
Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO; Secretary, Department of Defence R & D; Director General, Aeronautical Development Agency visited IIM Shillong and addressed the IIM Fraternity. The Programme started with a welcome address by Prof D P Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong. Dr. Satheesh mentioned his experiences with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and expressed that he is privileged to take the same podium where Dr Kalam last spoke. A nostalgic Dr. Reddy talked about how Dr. Kalam was a visionary like none other. Recounting his days as a young scientist working under the supervision of Dr. Kalam, he talked about his experience of coming through various challenges and hindrances to make India’s one of the most successful missile systems in the world. Going further, he threw light on his work as the DRDO Chairman and how the organisation manoeuvres various indispensable projects. The lecture was attended by Maj Gen PK Saini, Chief of Staff, Army HQ 101, Shillong and have also spoken on his experiences to the young minds of the country and talked about the great onus on our burdens to make sure that the nation progresses even faster. Talking about his expectations from the future leaders of tomorrow, Major General Saini inspired the students to live a life dedicated to the betterment of the country.
The event concluded with Prof. Keya Sengupta, Dean - Academics, IIM Shillong, expressing her gratitude to the noted guests on behalf of the institute for sparing their crucial time to enlighten the next generation leaders of tomorrow.
A MDP on “Change Management” was organized by IIM Shillong in the Campus for Officers of POWERGRID from 23rd to 27th September 2019. Altogether 28 participants attended the training program. The program was coordinated by Program Directors Prof. Rohit Dwivedi and Prof. Sanjeeb Kakoty from IIM Shillong.
The MDP was inaugurated in the presence of Shri B.Pal.Choudhury –Senior General Manager, A.K. Borthakur-General Manager HR and Ms Geetanjali Hijam HR POWERGRID along with Faculty and Officers from IIM Shillong.
The Objective of the MDP is to orient the participants towards changing Political Economy of Global Business and Development, to help them understand and appreciate some of the critical analysis of the memetic models of growth and its consequence, to understand factors like technology which is changing the nature of work and production, facilitate the participants to act as Change Consultants to their own Company and objectively engaged in self-reported assessment and analysis to reflect on their own change management capabilities.
The entire module is subdivided into two highlights( a) Content of Organisational Change and (b)Process of Managing Change and delivered through lectures and Mini Managerial Clinics which has enable the participants to interactively engaged and gain some insights into some of the diagnostic and intervention tools for Change.
The 5 days programme was facilitated by In House faculty. The insights and shared experience of Kuladhar Saikia- DG Police Assam ,initiator and Nodal Officer of Assam Police community empowerment and change initiative “Project Prahari ‘’ and Policy Research Group called “Assam Prakalpa” present during one of the sessions had a profound effect on the participants and greatly encouraged them to be “thinkers for change “ and “ positive contributors “not only for their company but also for the community at large.
On the occasion of Hindi Fortnight various competitions like Hindi Handwriting, Word Meaning, Hindi Reading and Antakshari were organized for Faculty members/ Staff. Creative writing, Extempore, poetry recitation and singing were organized for the students. Winners of various competitions were awarded cash prizes by the Director on 23 September 2019.
