Interview with eminent personalities, workshops, conclaves, nation-wide competitions are some of the mechanisms we follow to enable the spirit of entrepreneurship potential.

E-Cell of IIM Shillong aims to promote entrepreneurial spirit among the student fraternity and beyond. We serve as the bridge between enthusiasts and professionals in this field so that former can learn from their experiences, knowledge and expertise through initiatives like interviews, speaker sessions, competitions, conclaves and others. Being one of the premier B-school and the only one among the north-eastern part of our country, we proudly take the onus upon us to promote, support, boost and carry forward the immense pool of talent and ideas of this part of the country nation-wide. Ideas shape the course of history. An idea is the essence of a start-up and entrepreneurship. With this thought, E-Cell of IIM Shillong, organises “Pratyay – Ideas that Inspire,” conceptualized to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship. The event consists of case study competitions, speaker sessions, Model Investor Summits, in their shoes and cultural evenings.
Emerge, the Entrepreneurship summit of IIM Shillong, organized yearly by E-Cell of IIM Shillong, is one of the most premier events of the region.
The two-day summit is an initiative to recognize and felicitate the aspiring entrepreneurs of our country for their contributions and accomplishments in their respective fields. Speakers from across the country, B- plan competitions, workshops, technical and entertainment conclaves are some of the activities happening in EMERGE.
The Entrepreneurship cell of IIM Shillong hosted the 8th edition of its flagship Entrepreneurship summit, ‘Emerge 2020’, aon 22nd and 23rd November 2020. The two-day summit comprised of numerous expert talks, panel discussions, and workshops.
EmergE 2020 invited participants to dare and go beyond the ordinary, Beyond 1.0.
The event was conducted over two days; the highlights of each day were as follows:
The day started with a power-packed speech by the Director of IIM Shillong, Prof DP Goyal, highlighting the imperativeness of a B-School producing talented entrepreneurs and, in turn, invoking the students to embark on entrepreneurship journeys of their own. The inauguration was followed by the first panel discussion of the day- THE YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS.
PANEL 1: The Young Entrepreneurs
Moderated by the evergreen, lively, and youngster at heart, Mrs Neelam Rani, the discussion saw entrepreneurs sharing their experiences and insights. The students got a fresh perspective of things and were inspired to think differently. The young panellists took the students through the highs and lows of starting up and how they tackled their problems. The panel also encouraged the students of IIM Shillong to take the plunge towards entrepreneurship.

After a sumptuous lunch, and informal interaction with the members of both the panels, the students moved ahead for the second-panel discussion- The HOSPITALITY LANDSCAPE IN THE NORTH-EAST.
PANEL 2: The Hospitality Landscape in the North-East.
Moderated by the dynamic and students' favourite Professor Rohit Joshi, the panel boasted some of the hospitality industry's heavyweights. From references of Narcos by Mr. Prashanth Rao Aroor to the mercurial footballing and entrepreneurial journey of Mr. Larsing Ming Sawyan, from the Hatke idea that inspired Ms. Saumya Dutta to take the plunge, to the moment which inspired Mr. Girish Ahirwar to dropout of IIT Roorkee, the livewire panel discussion was a heart winner.
The panel enlightened and sensitized IIM Shillong students about the real possibilities and opportunities that exist in the north-east for entrepreneurship in the hospitality sector. It also threw light on the challenges on the road to fast-tracked growth and how an institution like IIM Shillong could be the guiding light in the much-needed collaboration between internal and external stakeholders.

Post these illustrious discussions; a workshop was organized for the students to help them widen the scope of their learnings. The ‘Essentials for Entrepreneurial Success’ workshop, conducted by the National Award-Winning entrepreneur, Mr. Gunajit Brahma, saw the students learn how to formulate a business plan, a skill that would be key for acing corporate competitions.
Day 2 (23rdFeb 2020)
For the very first time on our campus, “The Best Manager Competition” was conducted. The Best Manager had several strenuous rounds that stretched across a broad spectrum and encompassed all aspects of a manager’s job and duties. The event required competence, dexterity, and a quick wit. The perplexity involved was unparalleled and was experienced first-hand by the participants through the challenging situations and diverse problems presented before them.
