PUBLIC RELATIONS CELL
The Public Relations Cell of IIM Shillong acts as the interface between the institute and external entities such as corporates, media and other business schools. It aims at creating, fostering and managing professional relations with each of these entities.
It is responsible for providing guidance and mentorship to MBA aspirants seeking admission to IIM Shillong on popular forums like PaGaLGuY and MBAUniverse.com. On these lines, it conducted the ninth edition of Synapse, the mentorship program for the incoming batch. Working closely with the Student Council, it also facilitates the induction of the incoming batch every year.
The mandate of the PR Cell is to boost the visibility of IIM Shillong among corporates. In this regard it organizes ‘The Podium’ series, the annual corporate lecture series at the institute in association with the Placement Committee. The past editions have featured corporates from various established companies like Deloitte, L’Oreal, PepsiCo India, Facebook, Dr Reddy’s, Nestle and HDFC. The PR Cell also conducts video conferencing sessions under the “Synergy” series to interact with corporates from across the world representing various business domains.
To connect the institute with people from various fields and spread new ideas and thoughts, the PR Cell organizes TEDxIIMShillong, an independently organized TED event. The event has featured prominent speakers from various domains like Mr. Praveen Thipsay, Indian chess grandmaster, Ms. Anamika Khanna, a revered fashion designer and Ms. Pankaj Bhadouria, the first winner of India’s Masterchef Series among others.
The Public Relations Cell working in collaboration with the Alumni Committee organizes ‘Nexus’, the annual meet for the incumbent students to interact with the existing students across various cities in India. Also, working closely with the Student Council, the Cell facilitates the induction of the new batch of students into IIM Shillong. It also organizes the annual candle light march in the memory of Mr. Manjunath Shanmugam who was an alumnus of IIM Lucknow, in collaboration with the Manjunath Shanmugam Trust.
The Cell is responsible for all the social media channels of the institute like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. It promotes in-house events such as EmergE, Khlur-Thma, Golf Cup, SusCon and other events organized by the clubs and committees of the institute on print as well as social media. It aids in publishing articles on prominent forums such as InsideIIM as well as local and national publications. Thus the Public Relations Cell helps build and enhance the visibility and connect of the institute among external stakeholders.
