The Institute Student Council takes great pride in its responsibility to integrate the academic and co-curricular spheres of students’ lives. Guided by the motto “Take the Lead,” the Council strives to be the torchbearers of effective and purpose-driven leadership for the entire student body.
To achieve its vision, the Council has set a mission to promote a sense of harmony and camaraderie among the participants of the Institute, act as a voice for participants in front of the administration, and provide service to the community at large. The Council manages all the clubs and committees at IIM Shillong and ensures seamless coordination between them.
The Council organizes and/or coordinates several flagship events throughout the year that provide unique opportunities for students to learn and grow.
The Business Leadership Summit (BLS) is one such event that involves interactions with industry stalwarts through panel discussions on pressing issues facing the industry. Panels are held for various domains such as Consulting, IT and Analytics, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, among others.
Learning on the green turf is another flagship event that provides an excellent platform for corporates and B-schools to compete on the greens. In association with the IIM Shillong Amateur Golf Club, the Student Council held an integrated BLSxLearning on the Green Turf, offering a hands-on experience to the participants who learn the nuances of management by organizing an event of such grandeur.
Khlur-Thma, which translates to “War of Stars,” is the Institute’s annual B-School fest that sees robust participation from premier B-schools across the country. All teams vie for the top spots across eight flagship events.
In the memory of Late Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, the Council has launched “Nurturing Minds,” a teaching initiative that captures the essence of Dr. Kalam’s philosophy, “Education for All, for Development.” Leveraging the resources available within the Institute, the initiative aims to touch the lives of young and underprivileged students in and around Shillong. By facilitating better learning and inculcating self-confidence, the initiative has received an overwhelming response in its fourth year of operation.
