The Institute Student Council, driven by the ethos of integrating academic and co-curricular pursuits, proudly upholds its role in shaping student life. Under the guiding principle of “Take the Lead,” the Council endeavours to embody effective and purposeful leadership for all students.

With a clear vision in mind, the Council is committed to fostering a culture of harmony and camaraderie among the Institute’s participants. Serving as advocates for students’ concerns, they represent their peers before the administration. Furthermore, the Council is dedicated to community service, extending its impact beyond the campus.

In overseeing the myriad clubs and committees at IIM Shillong, the Council ensures seamless coordination, facilitating enriched student experiences and holistic growth.

The Institute Student Council at IIM Shillong orchestrates impactful events to enrich student experiences and foster community engagement.

  • The Business Leadership Summit (BLS) is a world-class platform that brings on board leading industry leaders across various industries, providing students with valuable inputs on global business trends and the future of business. The 7th edition, conducted over three days in association with the Learning on Green Turf Golf Cup, had 25 senior leaders, thought leaders, and policymakers in attendance. The conference had a thought leader in financial inclusion, Founder, erstwhile MD & CEO of Bandhan Bank, who spoke on his experience with microfinance and economic growth. Top strategists and business leaders of international organizations held high-impact conversations around industry innovation, leadership, and strategic expansion. BLS remains to strengthen its image as a change-making platform for knowledge sharing and top-tier networking, consolidating IIM Shillong’s stature as a centre for thought leadership and industry-academia partnerships.
  • The Northeast Enterprise Empowerment Venture (NEEV) exemplifies IIM Shillong’s social responsibility towards developing the region by nurturing entrepreneurship and sustainable development. By partnering with 60+ organizations in six states, 778 students supported 39 local sectors ranging from Handicrafts to Tea Industry, Agriculture, Textile/Recycling, among others. The program exposes students to immense hands-on training, preparing them to address actual problems while enriching community bonding. By connecting classroom learning with real-world application, NEEV reflects IIM Shillong’s mission of societal contribution and regional empowerment in the long term.
  • The Nurturing Minds program, instituted in honour of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, is a testament to IIM Shillong’s educational empowerment and community development. Founded in 2015, this outreach program works with local schools to provide enhanced learning experiences and all-round development for Northeast students. With this program, the institute aims to fill knowledge gaps, generate curiosity, and build a sound academic foundation.   In pursuance of this initiative, IIM Shillong has taken two schools—Mawkasiang Umroh Pres. SSA LP School and Quidotto Memorial SSA RCLP School, empowering more than 200 students in association with the Centre for Community Impact and Engagement for NE (NE-CCIE). In Association with North East Regional Institute of Education – National Council of Educational Research and Training (NERIE – NCERT), the institute has also guided 300+ students from across North-East India, equipping them with essential skills such as leadership, time management, and social-emotional growth through interactive and engaging activities. IIM Shillong has initiated educational and infrastructure development initiatives, such as a week-long winter camp during December 2024 to ensure experiential learning. Further, the institute has invited students from all over the state for career guidance and workshops, upholding its vision of cultivating young minds and contributing to growth with inclusiveness.
  • Finally, Khlurthma, IIM Shillong’s yearly flagship B-School fest, unites India’s top talent from 30+ leading B-Schools, with an impressive turnout of more than 4,000 students. The high-octane event lights up the campus environment, triggering healthy competition, innovation, and creativity. In varied and stimulating business competitions, participants are stimulated to think out of the box, breaking conventional norms and raising the bar for business expertise and strategic problem-solving.
