The Institute Student Council, guided by the ethos of balancing academic and co-curricular excellence, plays a pivotal role in shaping student life. Anchored in the spirit of “Take the Lead,” the Council strives to foster effective leadership, strengthen camaraderie across the Institute, and create an inclusive student community.

As the voice of the participants, the Council represents student interests before the administration while promoting initiatives that extend beyond campus through community engagement. It also coordinates the activities of the Institute’s clubs and committees, ensuring seamless collaboration and enriching the overall student experience.

The Institute Student Council at IIM Shillong curates impactful initiatives that enrich student experiences, strengthen industry engagement, and drive social impact.

  • The Business Leadership Summit (BLS) serves as a premier platform connecting students with distinguished industry leaders, policymakers, and thought leaders. The 8th edition, held in association with the Learning on The Green Turf Golf Cup, hosted 30+ eminent speakers who shared insights on the growing influence of global businesses and the consequent impact on the environment. Over the years, BLS has reinforced IIM Shillong’s position as a hub for thought leadership, industry-academia collaboration, and meaningful networking.
  • The Northeast Enterprise Empowerment Venture (NEEV) reflects IIM Shillong’s commitment to regional development through entrepreneurship and sustainable growth. Through partnerships with 60+ organizations across Meghalaya, 400 students worked across 30+ local sectors, including handicrafts, tea, agriculture, and textiles. By addressing real-world challenges and supporting local enterprises, NEEV bridges classroom learning with community impact.
  • The Nurturing Minds initiative, launched in memory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, promotes educational empowerment among school students across the Northeast. Through collaborations with schools and organizations such as NE-CCIE and NERIE–NCERT, the programme has impacted over 500 students through mentorship, leadership development, career guidance, and experiential learning initiatives, including educational camps and workshops.
  • Khlurthma, IIM Shillong’s flagship annual B-School festival, brings together more than 4,000 participants from 30+ leading institutions across India. Through a diverse range of business, cultural, and competitive events, the festival fosters innovation, strategic thinking, and healthy competition while celebrating talent from across the country.
